Constantly read and research. This one action can really make a profound difference. Some friends emphasized this more than anything else in my childhood, and it sure has made a difference for me and the people I help today.
In his book How to Win at the Sport of Business, Mark Cuban states that he spent a great deal of time reading and researching, and that this habit made a tremendous difference for him when he met with customers for his first business (MicroSolutions). In this book, he uses a quote Bobby Knight often used-“Everyone has the will to win; it’s only those with the will to prepare that do win.” As we know, Mark Cuban made his first fortune from the sale of MicroSolutions. He has continued his success throughout the years, making him a billionaire.
Reading and learning on the job makes it possible for me to help many people in Bloomington, Indiana and secure steady work. I’m currently reading The Mackay MBA of Selling in the Real World by Harvey Mackay. It’s a great book, and since we’re all in sales, you should check it out. Remember, “The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary.”
